Facts about the creator and lead of the show that you never knew!

The creator and the executive producer of the show, Shonda Rhimes, as usual, has created a great TV series that has left people glued to it. However, many people are not aware of the fact that Rhimes loves watching surgical shows on the Discovery Channel. When Patrick Dempsey, who plays Derek Shephard, first turned up for auditions, he got scared of Rhimes because of her bland and stone cold expressions.

The narrator of the show, and the lead actor, Ellen Pompeo, who plays Meredith Grey, actually wanted to do Secret Service, another ABC pilot. But, the show never was kicked off and she was instead offered to play the lead in the series. All the lead actors were massive smokers, especially Ellen. In order to hide the pregnancy of Pompeo during the filming of the 6th season, the writers actually developed a plot where she gives part of her liver to her father.
